Offense
An injury or wrong done to someone.

1Sa 25:31  "that this will be no grief to you, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that you have shed blood without cause, or that my lord has avenged himself. But when the LORD has dealt well with my lord, then remember your maidservant."

Ro 5:15  But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.

A stumbling-block or cause of temptation

-Greek skandalon, properly that at which one stumbles or takes
offence. 
-bait in a trap
Isa 8:14  He will be as a sanctuary, But a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense To both the houses of Israel, As a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Mt 16:23  But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men."

Mt 18:7 ¶  "Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!


Ga 5:11 And I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why do I still suffer persecution? Then the offense of the cross has ceased.

The "offence of the cross"  is the offence the
Jews took at the teaching that salvation was by the crucified
One, and by him alone. Salvation by the cross was a
stumbling-block to their national pride.

Offences -causes of stumbling

Mt 18:7 ¶ "Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!

Mr 9:43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

Ro 14:21 [It is] good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor [do anything] by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak.

1Co 10:32 Give no offense, either to the Jews or to the Greeks or to the church of God,

2Co 6:3 We give no offense in anything, that our ministry may not be blamed.

The purpose of offense- to steal the word from your heart


Mr 4:17 "and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble.

-stumble is the word offense.



Mt 11:6  "And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me."

Mt 13:57  So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house."

Mt 15:12  Then His disciples came and said to Him, "Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?"

Mt 24:10  "And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.

Mr 6:3  "Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?" And they were offended at Him.

Lu 7:23  "And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me."
